In a world wracked by crime, violence and political turmoil, Buffalo's arts community is taking center stage to change that trend in this town. Next Wednesday, May 24, the Church of Scientology of Buffalo and "Taylor Made Jazz," one of the region's most popular jazz groups, will join forces to recognize those who are making the city a better, safer place. From 5 until 9 that evening, the Church will host the first in its series of "Brighter Future for Buffalo" nights in its community hall at the corner of Main and Virginia.
The city of Buffalo has often been cast as a hotbed of violence, crime, drug abuse, illiteracy and economic ruin. But, said Teresa Reger, President of the Church of Scientology of Buffalo, "on the other hand, we've also long been known as a city of arts and artists. So, our concept is to create this 'Brighter Future for Buffalo' evening of jazz with members of the arts community who are known for their support of humanitarian causes. That's why we have 'Taylor Made Jazz,' joining us to acknowledge the best of Buffalo in a truly unique way."
Reger points to the writings of Scientology founder, L. Ron Hubbard, for a unifying maxim: "A culture is only as great as its dreams, and its dreams are dreamed by artists,"he wrote.
"In that vein," said Reger, "we are opening our doors to Buffalo's artists, both to assist them to create and thrive as individuals and to channel their talents to the betterment of our community."
According to Reger, "Taylor Made Jazz" is a model of such community-conscious talent. The award-winning internationally known group is noted for their charity performances worldwide and their work in schools, conducting workshops and concerts for child development and educational programs.
"Members of the Church of Scientology know that something can be done about the problems we face as a community—and we want to help revitalize Buffalo by capitalizing on the power of our city's artists to build a better society here. This 'Jazz Night' is our way of thanking those who are actively improving the community. They deserve it," she said.
Admission to the "Brighter Future for Buffalo" event at the Church of Scientology (Main and Virginia) is free. Music by "Taylor Made Jazz" starts at 5pm sharp. For information and to confirm attendance, call the Church's Public Affairs Office at (716) 856-3910.
